What follows is the story of Kember Honey:
Guy Kember, 1883-1952 is the grandfather of John Prins (owner of SofSURFACES). Guy Kember came over from Southport UK, in 1908 as the Canadian Government was handing out free farmland in Saskatchewan.

Great Grandpa Guy arrived in Canada and boarded the Grand Trunk Railway headed West to the Prairies. He made a stop in Sarnia to spend time with the Carr Family whom he had known back in England.  While in Sarnia, ON he met a farmer returning from Saskatchewan who advised great grandfather, not to travel further West, but stay in Ontario and buy farmland around Sarnia, and so Guy settled on farmland on London Rd, Sarnia, ON.

By all accounts Great Grandfather Guy was a useless farmer, and struggled to get anything done, His older brother Walter Kember became a pilot in the RAF and was shot down by the Red Baron, in the Barons account we read “Kember never knew what hit him”.

The conclusion is that the genetic package needed some serious talent-   Not all was lost, as Gr. Grandpa had great discernment with women and married a devoted hardworking woman,  Mary Carr.

They had 11 children together, Mary Kember was a proficient and enterprising lady, as the family scraped by during the depression of the 1930’s Mary had an initiative to begin producing and selling Honey to make ends meet.
Years later we’re thankful for the hard work of great Grandpa and Grandma, and in a way express our thankfulness by retelling the story of our family.

Kember Honey is coming close to 100 years in continual operation, In the 1950’s As Guy & Mary aged and no longer could carry on the operation, David Kember, Sr took over from Great Grandpa Guy,  then his son David Kember Jr took over in 2000 and is still going strong.   You can read more about Kember Honey here: https://www.kemberhoneyfarms.com/
