Poured In Place (PIP) (view picture)

Durability/Longevity

Poured in place surfacing that is installed under ideal conditions, by a reputable company, utilizing proven formulas, and experienced crews, will provide sufficient durability to meet the requirements of a typical playground environment. The long term success of a PIP system however, is dependant upon all the above conditions being satisfied.

Consider the following:

  • Since PIP is compressed manually on site, the product is difficult to manufacture with enough density to withstand the highest areas of traffic
  • PIP is currently being installed by many inexperienced installers with high failure rates
  • The quality of a PIP surface is largely dependant upon environmental (temperature, humidity, moisture) factors. For this reason the final quality of the surface can be as dependant on uncontrollable variables as it is on installation skill
  • Installations carried out by numerous installers can produce inconsistency between installations
  • Since PIP is manufactured on site, process control can be difficult
